VCU is an excellent place for folks with limited education and a need for work-life balance that tips in favor of life. Aggressive, career-minded people will find it limiting. Promotions tend to be given out based more on tenure than on skill. Good people with good intentions abound. Progressive in its acceptance of a broad range of lifestyles, races, etc. Backward-looking in its approach to solutions.

A typical day at work was to come in and set up my station and the back work. Then I would get my drawer and open all of my programs on my computer. I then would start to assist members. I would help members with anything from deposits, withdraws, and loan payments. I also made cashiers and credit union checks, and money orders. When we closed I would then balance my cash and checks then help close down the back work and image checks.

I would conduct transactions for members within their accounts and refer services that would initially help the member earn more money within their accounts or save money on other services received elsewhere. I learned how to help others financially and to ensure that the questions and concerns of tells that worked under me had a good understanding of government policies and also how to communicate with the members to get a good rapport. The management team was very helpful and always there to lend a hand of any questions or concerns the employees had and always addressed any issues promptly. The management team also gave opportunities for advancement when talent and work ethics were recognized. The hardest aspect I had with my position was getting members to commit to services suggested. The most enjoyable part of my job is I got to create friendships with many employees and members.

Working at Vantage Credit Union was

fast paced and engaging. I enjoyed helping members with their accounts and selling Credit Union products to members. On the other hand, I was once chewed out for reading the Vantage Credit Union website frontpage for company news on a slow day while the two employees next to me had be playing on fantasy baseball. This was typical of the favoritism played by the manager on location at that time.

Work day consist of a morning team huddle were we discuss goals and improvements.
I learned how to be more flexible and multi-task at a high level.
My co-workers are extremely interpersonal and willing to help when needed.
The hardest part of the job is meeting referral goals due to the fact that we are not face to face.
The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that you make a difference in our members financial lives.

Hour lunch break + a 15 minute break. Only work half a day on weekends.

Work days can be very stressful when dealing with the public and opportunity for advancement very slim. Great culture to work for but no incentives for front-line and back office employees, Over all the company has good benefits and good people but employees are not fairly compensated for the work they do.

I started off in the phone center with Vantage then moved to the Branch to be a personal banker. My experience with Vantage has been extremely valuable. I have learned to deal with angry people, over the phone and in person. I have opened accounts, start to finish on loans, Had loan authority. Absolutely wonderful company and working environment.
